One more Record Store Day exclusive to post. Before he passed away in 2014, our friend & legendary Indianapolis photojournalist Duncan Schiedt called us one day to say he had a tape he wanted Resonance Records to release. It was a recording of Wes Montgomery with The Eddie Higgins Trio. It was recorded at a club Duncan and friends ran called The Indianapolis Jazz Club (aka The IJC) on Sunday, January 18,1959. Duncan even gave us a newsletter from the club reviewing the performance. The tape had been passed down over the years, but no one supposedly ever heard the music until Duncan sent us the reel and we had it transferred at our studios. The music is a delightful gift for us to savor. It even includes the great Walter Perkins on drums (Ahmad Jamal’s trio drummer before Vernell Fournier).

There hasn’t been previously unissued Wes discoveries like this in decades. It is the honor of Resonance Records in partnership with several partners to present this music legally & officially. We worked with the estates of Wes Montgomery, Eddie Higgins, and Duncan Schiedt to see this was done right. We’re releasing this music on an exclusive 12″ record and only pressing 2500 for the world. This will only be on LP until 2016/2017 when the music will be included on a forthcoming multi-disc CD/LP release.
Just to be clear, there will also be a forthcoming 2CD/3LP Montgomery set coming this May (no connection with this music, but more on that soon).

Below are some details about the release. I hope you’ll enjoy us in celebrating this music. Thanks to all who were involved especially Robert Montgomery, Meredith D’Ambrosio, & Cameron Schiedt. Also, many thanks to Burton Yount for designing another incredible classic album cover (the photo is from the Indiana Historical Society taken in the mid 1950’s).
